Object Desktop 2008 is scheduled for a late March release, and today on WinCustomize, Brad showed off what Object Desktop 2008 will look like. If you are not familiar with what Object Desktop is, it’s a suite of desktop enhancements to change the look, feel, and function of Windows Vista and XP. What’s new in 2008 is that Object Desktop will be split into two.
Object Desktop Ultimate (the above plus over a dozen other programs)
The exciting part is anyone with an active subscription to ObjectDesktop.net on March 31, 2008 will automatically get upgraded to Object Desktop Ultimate free of charge.
One of the latest Master Skins from TheMasterBaron is Utopia Prime. It has become one of my favorite .dreams (animated wallpaper). It has a very subtle animation, but it looks fantastic on the desktop.
If you don’t have Vista, or would just rather have the static wallpaper image, you can find that here.
January started the year off great, and going in to February, submissions to the .dream gallery just keep getting better and better. We have several .dream creators starting to make quite a name for themselves, and I am still very excited for what we will see throughout the year.
Download links to all the featured .dreams can be found at the link below.
Brenopoubel is one of my personal favorite .dream creators. I like .dreams (animated wallpapers) that are subtle, and are not too "busy" on the desktop. Breno’s .dreams always seem to fit to this style, and he has once again release another fantastic animated wallpaper for use with DeskScapes.
This is the first edition of This Month in Dreams for 2008! Every month I take some of the most popular .dreams (animated wallpapers) and compile a video featuring them so everyone can see what they might have missed.
You can find links to all the .dream featured, and information about using them at the link below.
Brenopoubel has created another beautiful .dream (animated wallpaper) and shared it with the community. This is a "tropical" .dream with gently swaying palm trees against a sunset background.
I always like having a "tropical" desktop on my PC, but I was always limited to a static wallpaper. While that is fine, why settle for that when Vista users can an animated beach on their desktop. This .dream (animated wallpaper) was created by CarGuy1 and it looks fantastic on my desktop.
I put together a quick video showing DeskScapes 2.0 running on Vista Home Premium. Note that I only recorded a part of the screen. Some of the animated wallpapers may appear "jumpy", but that is just the video recording software, and they are very smooth on the desktop.
For almost the past year, animated wallpapers on Vista have been exclusive for Vista Ultimate owners. Stardock DeskScapes was released soon after which brought some amazing enhancements including dynamic and triggered wallpapers, the new .dream format, and more.
The first beta of DeskScapes 2.0 has arrived for Object Desktop users. DeskScapes 2.0 will run on any version of Vista that is Aero capable. Object Desktop subscribers will also get access to four exclusive dynamic .dreams.
