Since today is Valentine’s Day I thought it would be good to give people some resources to some Valentine’s inspired skins and themes.  The links below include various types of themes including cursors, wallpapers, logons, etc.

Every holiday I like to compile a list of the best wallpapers, skins, themes, cursors, etc. that people can use to put together a spectacular holiday desktop.  This holiday season we have seen quite a few Christmas inspired themes submitted over the last few weeks, and some have been very creative.

One of the best so far is the Winter Snow .dream (animated wallpaper), that puts some animated snow on your desktop.  There has also been some fantastic wallpapers that should fit well on a variety of desktops.

You have heard me talking about the WinCustomize Subscription/Charity Drive for several weeks now.  The close of the drive was Friday and today we have announced the final numbers.

    • Subscriptions: 1,171 (58.55% of goal)
    • Charity Dollars Raised: $4,207.00 (84.14% of total)

Over $4,000 raised for the Child’s Play charity!  That is great news and I also want to thank everyone who helped and participated to make this such a success.

The WinCustomize Charity/Subscription Drive is down to the final two days, but there is still time to get your subscriptions or skin purchases in.  For the past several weeks a portion of the subscriptions to WinCustomize and Master skin sales will be donated to the Child’s Play charity.  The drive has gone great so far, but with just a couple of days left, lets close it out with a bang!

A subscription to WinCustomize or a premium desktop skin is the perfect gift for just about anyone, and it’s especially great for someone who lives far away as the downloads can be accessed almost instantly.

For more information visit the WinCustomize Charity/Subscription Drive page.

The other day I featured some holiday cursors for your desktop, so today I wanted to show some logon screens for Windows Vista.  To use these logons you will to download Stardock’s LogonStudio Vista, which is a free download.  If you need some help on how to use the program, read the walkthrough here.

I really enjoy the holiday season, and one of my favorite things I like to do around this time of year is to create things that people can decorate their Windows desktops with.  I’m working on a couple of things, but this is my latest gadget that was created with Stardock’s DesktopX 3.5.  It’s an animated Christmas Garland that sits on your desktop, and you can run several instances of this and "string" them together to create your own holiday desktop.

If you are a user of DesktopX, you can find the Desktop version here.  If you don’t then you can download the stand-alone gadget from the link below.

The holiday seasons have always been popular when it comes to desktop customization.  It could be something as simple as changing your wallpaper to something for the Christmas season, or go all out and completely change your desktops visual style, icons, etc.  So today i wanted to recommend some Christmas cursors that you can easily change to bring the holiday to your desktop.

To use these cursors you will need to install CursorXP from Stardock.  It’s free, although there is a Plus version with some additional cool features.

Here are some Holiday cursors I recommend:

Feel free to post some screenshots of your holiday desktop, and let me know how you like any of these cursors.

Thanksgiving is just about here, and that means two things.  One is a whole lot of turkey, and the other is Black Friday where just about everyone who shops loses a bit of their mind.  Black Friday is the "traditional" start of the holiday shopping season, and for many that day starts very early, maybe even the day before.  Depending on what sales are going on people will camp out the day before to get the "early" deals.

The last couple of years my wife and I would drop the kids off at their grandparents early, and by early I mean about 5am.  We would by no means be going without a plan and supplies to get us through the next couple of hours.  In the days and weeks before Black Friday we would look at the ads that appear on various websites early, and obviously the ads that come out on Thanksgiving.    Checking for deals and comparing them to the kids Christmas lists was a lot of work, but most of the time we walked away getting some great deals.

So again that time of year is upon us, and I have spent the last couple of weeks looking at the deals, comparing lists, and checking websites looking for the best prices.  After going through what seemed like countless ads I have come to one conclusion, this years Black Friday sucks.  Now obviously one persons deals are different than another’s, but looking through the retail ads there seems to be a lack of discounts this year.

Many ads, especially for more retail electronics and game stores don’t have many specials at all, just the regular price that you can get any day of the week.  I really see no reason to get up early this year and fight the crowds for just a few deals.  So what about you, are you heading out on Black Friday this year?  If so, what deals are you going for?

Here are a couple of resources I have found valuable, and I thought I would share.

I originally made this widget a couple of years ago, as a simple way to get a countdown for the days until Christmas.  I took a bit of time this year and upgraded the graphics so it looks better on the desktop.  This widget was made with DesktopX.
