On the PC I mainly use Office 2007 for my work, but on the Mac I haven’t invested in an office suite like iWork or Office as of yet. For the past couple of years I been a big user of NeoOffice, it’s a great alternative to something like Microsoft Office. OpenOffice was available for OS X also, but required X11 which was something I personally didn’t want to have to use.

OpenOffice.org 3 will be the first version which doesn’t require X11 to run, and they have a beta available for the public. That was enough for me to go and grab the download as soon as possible. I have been using it only for a couple of days now, so I’m not prepared to write any type of preview for it. I just wanted to help spread the word and get people to try it, and help submit any issues or feedback to help the development.

I use OpenOffice.org for all of my MS Office needs…I just can’t afford the $200+ price tag for Office when you might get only 4 programs…You’re just paying for the name “Microsoft”. Besides, they don’t even support ODF (Open Document format). Open Office.org is good. However, if you can afford it, get MS Office. OpenOffice is a good substitute, but nothing can replace good ‘ol MS Office completely!
